Longleaf Hot Toddy

Classic doesn't even begin to describe this drink with a deep history. Hot cocktails have largely been relegated to the archives of history and we think that's a damn shame. The Hot Toddy is really more of a category than a cocktail itself. The proportions and ingredients can vary wildly depending on what you have on hand and the flavor you're shooting for. Here is a good base line to start your own experiments with.

1.5 oz. Heirloom American Whiskey or Borrowed Bourbon

1 oz. Honey Simple Syrup (or 1/2 oz. Honey)

1/4 oz. Lemon Juice

4 oz. Hot Water (or Tea!)

3 Whole Cloves (optional)

1 Cinnamon Stick (optional)

  1. Add the spices, honey simple, lemon juice and 4 oz. hot water (or tea) to a warm mug.

  2. Stir and allow to fully incorporate over a few minutes.

  3. Stir in the whiskey.

  4. Garnish with a lemon round and (optionally) a little fresh ground nutmeg.
